Amifostine Side Effects and Precautions_Industrial Additives

Amifostine, also known as amifostine, is a white solid chemical. The chemical name is 2-(3-aminopropylamine)-ethanethiol phosphate, the molecular formula is C5H15N2O3PS, the molecular weight is 325.4242, the melting point is 160~161°C, and it is easily soluble in water. Amifostine is a normal cell protective agent and is mainly used clinically for the adjuvant treatment of various cancers.

Side effects

1 Dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, etc., but the patient can tolerate it.

2 During the medication, there is a transient slight drop in blood pressure, which usually resolves within 5 to 15 minutes. Less than 3% of patients need to stop medication due to significant drop in blood pressure.

Contraindications

1 Use with caution in patients with hypotension and hypocalcemia.

2 It is contraindicated for patients with a history of allergy to this product and those who are allergic to mannitol.

Notes

1 Since medication may cause a short-lived hypotensive reaction, be careful to stay in the supine position.

2 This product only shows effective protective effect when used immediately before radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, it has no protective effect when used several hours before or after radiotherapy and chemotherapy. This is consistent with its pharmacokinetics.
