alkyldimethicone consists of alkyl groups grafted onto a silicone backbone. alkyl dimethicone has enhanced compatibility with many organic-based cosmetic oil ingredients, e.g. uv filter. the addition of alkyl groups to the silicone backbone causes changes in the surface tension of different oil systems with different polarities.
