Safety/bioavailability/efficacy study of organic yeast zinc
Zinc with a difference – yeast/zinc fermentation products
Currently, cosmetic ingredients containing zinc are widely used, and 32 of them are included in the Catalogue of Names of Used Cosmetic Ingredients (2015 Edition). And yeast/zinc fermentation products are the most distinctive of all zinc-containing ingredients.
Inorganic zinc is added to the medium during the growth of yeast, and zinc-rich yeast is obtained by using the absorption and transformation of zinc elements by yeast, and then the separation of zinc-rich yeast intracellulars is achieved through bioenzymatic technology to obtain yeast/zinc fermentation products.
Compared to inorganic zinc and chemically synthesized zinc raw materials, which have obvious irritation and low bioavailability, the yeast/zinc fermentation product is highly bioavailable, safe and easily absorbed due to its organic combination, and has its unique efficacy characteristics in cell proliferation, skin repair, oil control and antibacterial, and skin microecology regulation.
Safety
Through cooperation with the French National Center for Scientific Research, it was found that the zinc element in yeast/zinc fermentation products exists in yeast cells mainly in combination with proteins, peptides, amino acids, citric acid, maleic acid, succinic acid and other components. The diverse organic combined form effectively ameliorates the irritation and low absorption and utilization problems associated with inorganic zinc. After short-term exposure in vitro tests, in vitro skin sensitization tests: ARE-Nrf2 luciferase keratin TM test and human cell line activation test (H-CLAT), and human patch test, we found that the yeast/zinc fermentation product is safe and reliable without any irritation problems.

High bioavailability
The study of the metabolic kinetics of the yeast/zinc fermentation product in rats was published in Molecular Nutrition Food Research. The results of the test showed that the bioavailability of the yeast/zinc fermentation product was 38.4% and 15.5% higher than that of zinc sulfate and zinc citrate, respectively, and the advantages of the yeast/zinc fermentation product in its organic form were well demonstrated in the rat metabolic kinetics test.
Promotion of cell proliferation
Based on the efficacy characteristics of the skin care-related enzymes (SOD superoxide dismutase, MMP metalloproteinase, AP alkaline phosphatase, RNA and DNA polymerase) in which zinc is involved, Anki evaluated the efficacy of Saccharomyces cerevisiae zinc fermentation products in cell proliferation and skin repair.

The yeast/zinc fermentation product showed significant pro-proliferative efficacy at 48h at concentrations of 0.078%, 0.156%, 0.313%, 0.625%, 1.25% and 2.5%; zinc and the amino acids, proteins and trace elements in it provided sufficient nutrients for cell proliferation.
Promote cell repair
The repairing efficacy of yeast/zinc fermentation products was verified by cell scratching, and the sample group showed significant pro-migratory effects on fibroblasts at 1% and 2% concentrations compared to the blank group (p<0.01). Zinc-rich amino acid peptides and other components are more favorable for cellular metabolism and uptake, which can effectively bind to intracellular proteins and other substances after entering the cells and participate in the regulation of numerous genes and enzymatic activities of the organism, including cell division, growth and differentiation.
Relevant clinical trials
Thirty subjects were selected to test whether yeast/zinc fermentation products could be useful in oil control, antibacterial, skin and scalp care.
The skin lipid content and the rate of change of the forehead and cheeks were measured for 4 hours using yeast/zinc fermentation products with different formulation contents and SM815 (CK, Germany). The results revealed that the yeast/zinc fermentation product significantly reduced skin lipid secretion in a dose-dependent manner. This indicates that zinc in organic form has its unique aspect in oil regulation.

Bacterial Inhibition As the results in the above graph show, the yeast/zinc fermentation product can exert some inhibitory effect on Propionibacterium acnes at certain concentrations.
For both acne and scalp problems during puberty, yeast/zinc fermentation product can exert its unique combination of effects. As the temperature rises and summer approaches, cortical secretion in the skin increases, and the overproliferation of oleophilic fungi further leads to imbalance in the skin flora, which in turn causes itching, keratinocyte proliferation, and abnormalities. Skin irritation itching induces scratching and excessive cleaning, triggering an inflammatory response and accelerating abnormal differentiation of keratinocytes, which in turn destroys the skin barrier. Increased stimulation of environmental foreign substances at a later stage can further lead to imbalance of skin microecology.
Combing the efficacy characteristics of yeast/zinc fermentation products:
First of all, the role of zinc lies in regulating oil metabolism to a certain extent through external application or oral administration, reducing the overproduction of oil, which in turn inhibits fungal growth and regulates the balance of flora; at the same time, zinc can also promote cell division and promote skin healing; in addition, zinc can also regulate the immune response in skin cells, improve the immune balance of the skin and restore the skin barrier function.
With the increasing market demand for safety, health and efficiency, the yeast/zinc fermentation product of the same source of makeup and food is promising for future application because of its wide use in the food field, organic form, safety, high bioavailability, and in-depth research in the field of repair, oil control, antibacterial and other efficacy.
