Evonik’s alkoxide products will be produced and marketed by the Catalysts business line
Sustainability and “next generation solutions” will be a development focus and growth driver in the coming years

Existing alkoxide sales channels will not be affected and will continue to provide services to our customers
Evonik integrates its own expertise and merges the alkoxide business into the catalyst business line, including its global production Network and business team with senior industry experience. In this way, Evonik’s broad portfolio of heterogeneous catalysts will be supplemented by a homogeneous catalyst range, which will drive the further development of the Catalysts business line.
The chemical industry is in a stage of deep transformation. Driven by sustainable issues such as circular economy, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and carbon neutrality, catalysts will play an important role in this transition. Currently, about 80% of chemical processes are inseparable from catalysts.
This internal integration will effectively advance Evonik’s existing catalyst expansion strategy and provide support for the transformation of the chemical industry. This will strengthen Evonik’s position as the world’s leading catalyst supplier.
Sanjeev Taneja, head of Evonik’s Catalysts business line, said: “Currently, the global catalyst market is extremely fragmented. Business growth. Guided by ‘next generation solutions’ with excellent sustainable benefits, we are gradually expanding our product and service portfolio through targeted acquisitions or strategic partnerships to assist customers in their own transformation. Catalysts help create sustainable production processes , products and applications. By integrating the alkoxide business, our business development will go further.
”
The main application of alkoxides is the production of sustainable biodiesel from vegetable oils, gutter oils or other fat-based wastes, optimizing the production process and maximizing the yield of raw materials. Alcoholates can also be used to synthesize active ingredients and fine chemicals, and have a wide range of applications in the life science industry.
A potential application field of alkoxide is the chemical recycling of PET plastics. Currently, Evonik is working with partners to disassemble polymer chains into original monomers to regenerate chemical raw materials for the production of plastics. These recycled raw materials can be used to produce high-quality new polymers.
After being merged into the catalyst business line, the alkoxide business will operate as an independent product line.
Alexander Weber, head of Evonik’s alcoholates business line, said: “This integration is logical, and we will have more similar initiatives. By integrating multiple functions, including at the Hanau site in Germany Our R & D department, our core technical capabilities and experience will be closely integrated. We will work in a more targeted way, and colleagues can learn from each other, which is not only conducive to the development of specific products, but also can better support the supply chain , digitization and other customer service processes.”
In the alkoxides and catalysts business area, Evonik will continue to provide customers with products and services that meet expectations. Product quality, delivery, regional sales channels, workflow, structure and contacts remain unchanged. From July 2023, customers can obtain high-quality products and services from the two business lines through the same channel.
Evonik wants to make an important contribution to the transformation of the chemical industry, making technology faster, more efficient and more cost-effective. This business integration will provide strong support for this process.
