It is reported that the global chemical giant Covestro’s special elastomer materials are used in China’s submarine cables. In the next three to five years, the market capacity is expected to increase to 10,000 MW. Once implemented, China’s OWF will become one of the largest markets in the world in terms of market capacity and output, surpassing all existing and planned production capacity in Europe.
Covestro’s special elastomer materials are used in China’s submarine cables
The two companies are collaborating to develop the Cable Protection System (CPS) to protect valuable and fragile submarine cables in areas prone to waves and tides. The protective measures developed include bend reinforcers and bend limiters. Most of the technical means belong to the TEKLINK® CPS system developed by Tekmar using special elastomer materials from Covestro.
TEKLINK® CPS is a patented CPS system for cable connection and protection. Products include damping motion enhancers and bend limiters for locking protection, as well as split tubes for ballasts and stabilizers.
In order to achieve the functional requirements and hydrolysis resistance in practical applications, Covestro launched the latter new system using its famous Desmodur® and Baytec® technologies. At the same time, the agreement also stipulates that Covestro needs to provide elastomer casting machinery, elastomer systems and cable protection system production process technology.
