The requirements for the development of new chemical materials are constantly increasing. How to break through bottlenecks in the future? -TMPDA-tetramethylpropylenediamine

With the gradual decline of fossil energy, new energy and new energy technology have become the main trend in the future, which will inevitably put forward higher requirements for new chemical materials. At the same time, our country’s economy is facing industrial transformation and upgrading, and is moving from a large manufacturing country to a powerful manufacturing country, which requires adequate support for new chemical materials.

New chemical materials have excellent performance, strong functionality and high technical content. They are one of the important representatives of chemical industry technology and belong to the category of strategic emerging industries in my country. They are widely used in aerospace, new and new industries. Energy and many other cutting-edge fields play an important role.

In this context, the development requirements of the new chemical materials industry continue to increase, and greater progress and breakthroughs need to be achieved. Next, how to break through industry bottlenecks will be the key to achieving the goal.

According to the “China Chemical New Materials Industry Development Prospects and Investment Strategic Planning Analysis Report” released by the Qianzhan Industry Research Institute, the total global output of new chemical materials exceeds 60 million tons. The total output value exceeds 2 trillion yuan. Among them, the United States, Japan, and Western Europe account for 70% of the global total production, and the output value exceeds 2/3.

It can be seen from the data that there is a big gap between my country’s new chemical materials industry and other countries. To blame, my country’s new chemical materials are facing three major bottlenecks, hindering the further development of the industry.

The first bottleneck is the low self-sufficiency rate of high-end products, making it difficult to achieve stable supply. For example, in 2015, the self-sufficiency rate for engineering plastics was 49%, the self-sufficiency rate for carbon fiber was only 28.6%, and the self-sufficiency rate for high-performance membrane materials was 43%. Among the 12 products in 7 categories, the self-sufficiency rate of 6 is less than 20%, which shows the huge gap.

The second bottleneck is that core technology is difficult to break through. Although our country attaches great importance to the development of the new chemical materials industry and organizes key scientific and technological research, it has always been difficult to break through some core key technologies, which has become the biggest constraint on the development of the new chemical materials industry.

The third bottleneck is the heavy reliance on imports of key raw materials. Due to the lack of mastery of core technologies, many key raw materials are still dependent on imports. For example, in 2015, domestic consumption of high-end polyolefins was 9.22 million tons, of which 5.87 million tons were imported.

How to break through the above bottlenecks? The key lies in innovation. Only through innovation and development can we improve the self-sufficiency rate of new chemical materials, conquer key core technologies, and improve product high-end and differentiation.

Specifically, in the future, the industrialization of basic products should be the focus of development to achieve stable production of engineering plastics, carbon fiber, etc.; the high-end and serialization of products should be the focus of development. Increase research and development efforts in key areas; focus on new technologies and products, and attach great importance to the development of functional materials.

Generally speaking, as my country accelerates its development towards mid-to-high-end fields, the new chemical materials industry has huge market potential and room for development, but it must break through various bottlenecks as soon as possible.
