Properties and uses of sodium oxalate_Industrial additives

Sodium oxalate (Na2C2O4) is the sodium salt of oxalic acid. It is a reducing agent and is often used as a bidentate ligand.

Properties

Appearance: white solid
Density: 2.34 g/cm³
Melting point: 250-2 free silica 70 °C (253 K)
Solubility (water): 3.7 g/100 ml (20°C), insoluble in alcohol

Waste disposal

After neutralization, dilute with large amounts of water and discharge

Purpose

It can be used as the reference substance for calibrating potassium permanganate solution during redox titration.

Ca2+ can be removed, which can be used to test hard water or biologically prevent coagulation (by removing calcium ions from the plasma to prevent the biochemical pathways that cause coagulation). It should be noted that removing Ca2+ will also affect brain function, and It can cause cosmetic raw materials to turn into calcium oxalate and accumulate in the kidneys, causing kidney stones.
