Characteristics and uses of oxalic acid_Industrial additives

Overview

Oxalic acid can reduce the bioavailability of mineral elements and easily form calcium oxalate with calcium ions, so oxalic acid is often considered an antagonist for the absorption and utilization of mineral elements. Oxalate root has a strong coordination effect, and oxalic acid can form water-soluble complexes with many metals. Oxalic acid is a strong acid among organic acids. It has strong reducing properties and instability, and can react with alcohol to form esters. For example, oxalic acid reacts with ethanol to form diethyl oxalate. Oxalic acid has irritating and corrosive effects on skin and mucous membranes.

Product Usage

1. Used as complexing agent, masking agent, precipitating agent and reducing agent.

In analysis, it is used to verify and determine metal ions such as beryllium, calcium, chromium, gold, manganese, strontium, and thorium. Microcrystalline analysis examines sodium and other elements. Standard solutions for calibrating potassium permanganate and cerium sulfate solutions. In the construction industry, before applying exterior wall paint, oxalic acid should be applied to remove alkali since the wall surface is highly alkaline.

2. Used as a catalyst for the synthesis of phenolic resin.

The catalytic reaction is mild, the process is relatively stable, and it lasts the longest. Oxalic acid acetone solution can catalyze the curing reaction of epoxy resin and shorten the curing time. It is also used as a pH regulator for synthetic urea-formaldehyde resin and melamine formaldehyde resin. It can also be added to polyvinyl formal water-soluble adhesive to improve drying speed and bonding strength. It can be used as an accelerator for the preparation of starch adhesives using KMnO4 oxidant to speed up the oxidation rate and shorten the reaction time.

3. Use as bleach:

Solvents, dye reducing agents, tanning agents, etc. used to extract rare metals and rare earth elements. In the printing and dyeing industry, it can replace acetic acid and be used as a color development aid and bleaching agent for pigment dyes. Oxalic acid can also be used in the production of cobalt-molybdenum-aluminum catalysts, metal and marble cleaning, textile bleaching, leather processing, catalyst preparation, etc.

4. Use as reducing agent:

In the organic synthesis industry, it is mainly used to produce hydroquinone, pentaerythritol, cobalt oxalate, nickel oxalate, gallic acid and other chemical products. The plastic industry is used to produce polychlorinated American 3M ethylene, amino plastics, urea-formaldehyde plastics, paint flakes, etc. Silane coupling agent in dye industry is used to make salt-based magenta green, etc. In addition, oxalic acid can also be used to synthesize various oxalate esters, oxalates, and oxalamides, among which diethyl oxalate, sodium oxalate, and calcium oxalate have the largest yields.

5. Use as mordant:

Antimony oxalate can be used as a mordant, and ferric ammonium oxalate is a chemical for printing blueprints.

6. Rust removal function:

Oxalic acid can be used to remove rust. However, be careful when using it, as oxalic acid is highly corrosive to stainless steel. High concentration of oxalic acid can also easily corrode hands. After the skin comes into contact with oxalic acid, it should be washed with water in time.

Storage and transportation characteristics

Store sealed in a dry and cool place. Strictly moisture-proof, waterproof and sun-proof. The storage temperature should not exceed 40℃. Keep away from oxidizing and alkaline substances. Packed in polypropylene woven bag lined with plastic bag.
