Synthesis method of trioctyl phosphate_industrial additives

Trioctyl phosphate is widely used as a flame retardant, plasticizer, and extraction agent in the production of chemical companies. Its most important use is the production of hydrogen peroxide. As a solvent for hydroanthraquinone, trioctyl phosphate has the following conditions: high solubility of hydroanthrone, high distribution coefficient of hydrogen peroxide between water and solvent, high boiling point, and high ignition point.

Hazards of combustion and explosion of trioctyl phosphate

Trioctyl phosphate is flammable above 370 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to be classified as Class C fire hazard. The flash point of trioctyl phosphate is 215.5°C and the auto-ignition temperature is 370°C. Combustion (decomposition) will produce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and oxidation. Phosphorus is prohibited from being mixed, mixed, or stored with strong oxidants, strong acids, strong alkalis, and other similar items. For trioctyl phosphate fires, foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, and sand should be used to extinguish fires. If vapor in a closed area can explode when exposed to fire, use mist water to cool exposed containers outside a safe explosion-proof distance.

Trioctyl phosphate toxicity hazards and first aid

Trioctyl phosphate mainly enters the human body through inhalation, ingestion, and absorption through the skin. It is slightly toxic and has no irritating effect on the skin and eyes. LD50: 3700mg/kg (rat oral); > 12800mg/kg (mouse oral); 20000mg/kg (rabbit transdermal);

If skin comes into contact with trioctyl phosphate, immediately take off contaminated clothing and rinse with running water. Keep the patient warm and quiet. Inhalation, ingestion or skin contact may cause delayed reactions. Ensure that medical personnel understand the personal protection knowledge related to this substance and pay attention to their own protection;

If your eyes come into contact with trioctyl phosphate, immediately open your upper and lower eyelids and rinse with running water for 15 minutes;

If trioctyl phosphate is inhaled, leave the scene immediately to fresh air and seek medical attention immediately. If the patient stops breathing, give artificial respiration immediately. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen;

If you swallow trioctyl phosphate by mistake, you should drink plenty of warm water and induce vomiting and seek medical attention immediately.

Synthesis method of trioctyl hexaphosphate

Trioctyl phosphate can usually be produced by reacting H3PO4, POCI3, P2O5 and 2-ethylhexanol (i.e. octanol) silicone elastomer. POCI3 and octanol react to synthesize trioctyl phosphate (TOP). Because of its most economical cost accounting, it is mostly used in industrial production. The synthesis methods of trioctyl phosphate (TOP) mainly include the sodium alcohol method and the reduced pressure method;

The sodium alkoxide method is a reaction between alcohol and alkali metal hydroxide to generate an alkali metal alcoholate, which is then reacted with phosphorus oxychloride (POCI3) to obtain trisilicon phosphate emulsion octyl ester (TOP);

The reduced pressure method is to directly react alcohol with phosphorus oxychloride (POCI3) under reduced pressure, and discharge the generated HC1 under reduced pressure to obtain trioctyl phosphate (TOP);

Upstream raw materials: 2-ethylhexanol (isooctanol), phosphorus oxychloride;

Downstream products: hydrogen peroxide.
