Canada issues restrictions on the use of acephate_Industrial Additives

World Agricultural Network Chinese website reports: After re-evaluating acephate, Canada plans to cancel certain registered uses of acephate, and some retained registered uses require mitigation measures to protect humans and the environment. healthy.

Acephate is used for broad-spectrum control of pests in a variety of crops and use sites, including forests and woodlands, terrestrial food and feed crops, and outdoor ornamental plants. It is an important component of pest control programs and is also Can be used interchangeably with other products to prevent the development of pest resistance.

Registered pesticide product labels must contain specific instructions for use and list the human health and environmental risk mitigation measures that must be taken by law. After acephate is re-evaluated, additional measures to reduce product risk will be included on the label. Proposed regulatory decisions related to human health are set out in PRVD2016-01, which include mitigating measures such as banning foliar applications in residential areas, eliminating potato uses, and replacing soluble powders with pellets, which are currently being converted to Ball product label. Comments related to the PRVD 2016-01 risk assessment will be considered and responded to in the final re-evaluation decision for acephate.

In order to protect the environment, it is recommended to take the following measures:

► Cancel aerial spraying and outdoor sprayer application, which are currently registered for use on various trees and ornamental plants, as well as Christmas tree plantations, farm woodlands, nurseries, protective strips, roadside and municipal parks

► Cancel the maximum foliar application rate (this is because aerial spraying/spray spraying, the only application method with a registered maximum application rate, has been cancelled)

► The use of farm woodland, protective belts, roadsides and municipal parks is limited to fixed-point application with handheld devices

► Users need to be informed of the toxicity and potential risks of acephate to pollinators, beneficial arthropods, birds, mammals and aquatic life

► Labels need to remind users to avoid application during or within 9 days of flowering of crops that are attractive to pollinators (or other crops that use farmed bees for pollination)

► Label statement needs to inform users that tree injection must occur after flowering/pollen shedding

► Label statement requires users not to discharge acephate-contaminated wastewater from greenhouses into the aquatic environment

► Precautionary label statements need to inform users of methods to reduce the migration of the ingredient

See Appendix 2 of PRVD2019-04 for label modification suggestions based on these environmental mitigation measures.

The public (including registrants and stakeholders) is invited to submit relevant opinions during the 90-day public consultation period after the announcement of this proposed reassessment decision to improve the environmental risk assessment.

When preparing the reassessment decision document, Original German Imported Hot Melt Adhesive will consider all comments received during the public consultation period and may modify the above risk mitigation measures based on these comments.
