Entering the new century, the world’s silicone monomer production has accelerated its transfer to China. In 2004, the American Dow Corning Company and the German Wacker Company jointly established a factory in China and invested in the construction of a 190,000 tons/year siloxane project in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province; in 2007, Zhejiang Xin’an Group signed a joint venture agreement with the American Momentive Advanced Materials Group. It cooperates in the construction of a 100,000 tons/year silicone monomer project in Jiande, Zhejiang; China Bluestar Group acquired the silicone business of the French company Rhodia in 2006, becoming the world’s fourth largest silicone production company. So far, four of the world’s five largest silicone monomer manufacturers have achieved manufacturing in China.
At the same time, China’s local silicone monomer production capacity is also expanding rapidly. In just 6 years from 2004 to 2010, China’s organic silicone monomer production plants have grown from 4 to 15, and the production capacity has increased from 250,000 tons. / year increased to 1.7 million tons / year, accounting for nearly 40% of the world’s total production capacity, becoming the country with the largest production scale of silicone monomers in the world.
