In January 2018, the European Union Gazette published the European Commission’s Amendment No. 2018/35, which formally revised Annex XVII of the REACH regulation to stipulate the use of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane in rinse-off cosmetics. The content of alkane (D5) must be less than 0.1%. This revision of the regulations has ended the 10-year dispute over the use of D4 and D5. At the same time, the establishment of a concentration limit of 0.1% can effectively stop the addition of D4 and D5. ” “No D4, D5” will become the standard for European rinse-off cosmetics. It can be seen that although there is no clear research data to prove the harm of D4 and D5, we cannot deny their potential safety hazards.
