Silicones: a beautiful success story – Cosmetic silicone oil manufacturer

Silicones have been around for more than 60 years, and their use continues to increase. When it comes to beauty products, silicones are everywhere. They are included in shampoo, conditioner, styling products, sunscreen, primer, foundation, lipstick, mascara and more.

So what exactly is silicone? Why have they become so common in the beauty world?
Silicones are made by synthesizing elemental silicon with oxygen and other elements such as carbon and hydrogen. Silicon is rarely found in its pure form in nature due to its tendency to combine with oxygen, and is usually found in the form of silica or silica. Silica is found in high concentrations in quartz (sand). And, to be sure, sand is often used to make silicone.

As for long-lasting popularity, silicones have a range of properties that make them the perfect addition to beauty formulas. They smooth and improve product application, increasing “slip” and spread; prevent moisture loss; provide water resistance and durability; help repair skin or hair damage; add shine; improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; create a breathable barrier; And can be used as a delivery system for other ingredients.

To take advantage of these different qualities, silicones can come in different forms, including fluids, waxes, polyethers, and elastomers. One of the most commonly used is cyclomethicone because its rapid evaporation rate makes it a useful carrier for active ingredients intended to be absorbed into the skin. Cyclomethicone has recently come under regulatory scrutiny, but there are alternatives in the form of short-chain dimethicone. Dimethicone and dimethicone copolyol work by forming a breathable film on the skin, which then allows other ingredients to remain on the surface. They are often used in BB and CC creams to help maintain an even tone.
